    About “David McMullen-Sullivan

    1. David McMullen-Sullivan says:

I grew up around Orlando, FL, and have a background in medicine and computer science I attribute my love for reading coming from the fact that my mother often took me and my siblings to the library when we were growing up as kids What fun I have always wanted to write, but I m just now getting around to doing something about that impulse, and have finished several short stories Although I ve failed at NaNoWriMo every year I ve done it, I plan to start on my first full length novel after I finish one short story and a screen adaptation of Moorehead Manor.

    1. This is a 3.5 star read.An entertaining, eerie short story that was really well written and could easily be read in a lunch break. While the idea of teens being locked in a haunted house isn't new there was just enough variance in the back story to make it interesting. I'd like to read more of this author's work.

    2. There was a sudden crash. Jimmy screamed, followed by the sound of a door swinging back and forth on its hinges. His cries for help became muffled, now coming from the room beyond. Adam was the first to react. He ran into the darkness yelling, “Jimmy!” Emily followed with less speed, convinced that he was playing tricks on them again. She kept her arms out in front of her, pawing at utter blackness. Her hands connected with the pass-through door, and she pushed past it.A small window high up [...]

    3. Nice short story As first I thought this story was going to be eye rolling cheesy but it turned out quiet nice! Crypt tv needs to get a hold of this and make a short movie from it

    4. Somewhere between 2.5 Stars and 3 StarsThis was an enjoyable read, but I did find it lacking in spots. The first few pages read like something you would expect from a high school writing project. Overall there was more telling then showing. There were parts of dialog I didn't find believable. Face it, your average teenage boy is not going to use the word "Gosh". However, even with these shortcoming, this was very creepy. While the characters could have been better developed, they were still very [...]

    5. This was a nice short story, but nothing really outstanding. There was a bit of a twist at the end but for the most part the characters were kind of flat and it used all the standard haunted house cliches. I'm also a little bit confused on the time period this takes place in and how this house is so dilapidated after only being empty for around 50 years [and all the ones around it had to be torn down? in that short of a time?]. It's okay for the length and the fact that it's free, but nothing re [...]

    6. Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest, non-reciprocal, review. It's been a while since I've read a good ghost story. So when the invitation to dive into one was presented, I jumped at it. I'm happy to report that Moorehead Manor by David McMullen-Sullivan fits the bill. It serves up quite a few chills within its pages while having some depth to counter the horror, something few contemporary ghost stories manage. I'm especially fond of the fact that the story ta [...]

    7. I have had this NEED for horror lately and while looking through last night to see what I would be reading next, I found this and decided to give it a try. This was a good short scary story and definitely one I would recommend to anyone who likes haunted houses.

    8. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.I've been a fan of horror since I was a kid, so I was looking forward to reading this story, and I really liked itNS:- Sometimes the writing was telling too much rather than showing.- There were a few errors in the book.- At parts it might have spent a too much time describing the scenery, but this is something that I can easily see other people having no problem with. It wasn't so bad that it took me out of the story.- There w [...]

    9. Moorehead Manor ReviewAn Enjoyable Read. (I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review). The night before reading Moorehead Manor, I watched The Woman in Black, so my mind was already geared toward a horror story. I am pleased to write this review for a job well done. It was obvious that the author put in a lot of work and time to make this what I believe to be a successful story. The plot, characters, timing, and scope of the piece were well presented. The you [...]

    10. The story, at first, seemed to have a shallow 'Young Adult' feel and I prepared myself for a tame read. I was, therefore, pleasantly surprised when it plunged into darker (and far more satisfying) waters as events unfolded. I wouldn't describe it as 'scary' so much as 'atmospheric and disturbing' and really quite enjoyable.

    11. Short and easy to read, this book kept me guessing until the end and included several twists that kept my attention. The dialogue balances the narrative and keeps the story moving. There are a few curse words and a sexual reference, but otherwise the story is clean. I definitely recommend it if you like short, paranormal stories with a mystery.

    12. Moorehead ManorStory was full of surprises. I enjoyed reading it. Always like the haunted house type stories. The authors descriptions put me right there at the scene.

    13. ExcitingThis book was really good and kept me wanting more! Loved it! Can't wait to read the 2nd book of the series

    14. Overall, I enjoyed this. I think I really want to rate it closer to 3.5, because the things preventing me from enjoying it more were personal pet peeves. For myself, I'd rate it a 3. It wasn't dark enough for my tastes, and the dialogue didn't feel natural. For others, I'd rate it a 4, especially if you like your horror spooky but not too dark or gory. McMullen-Sullivan has potential as a storyteller. He has some interesting imagery, and a pretty fluid writing style. I would have liked for some o [...]

    15. I stumbled upon this book when I was looking through the kindle bookstore on my tablet! At first, I wasn't expecting to really be thrilled by this book! I don't typically read horror books, but this book hands down was really good. I give this book a 4.5/5 stars! I enjoyed the writing style of the book. There was just something about the writing that just drove you in and made you want to understand what it was about. Although, it was a short story, it was very powerful and had me reading it til [...]

    16. "Moorehead Manor" would make a very touching movie script!I was left speechless by the time I read the last page! This book is bursting with emotion and suspense! Heart-wrenching at times, it makes you stop and ponder the questions of life itself. I really could not have guessed any of the mysteries in this story; it was completely unpredictable. This fact kept me on the edge of my seat as I undertook the journey with the young adventurers in this tale. The story is told with a surreal quality b [...]

    17. It was the cover of this short story that originally caught my eye. I'd describe it as a longer length short story about three teenage friends who find themselves trapped in a haunted house. I liked the premise of the story but for me the execution fell flat in places. The delivery wasn't consistent throughout.I like haunted house stories at the best of times. The standout character for me was the young and ghostly Alice. There were hints of darker themes in this story which weren't really broug [...]

    18. Looks can be deceivingI'm sure many have lived in a town where there's an old abandoned house that everyone says is "haunted".What about a house that's been abandoned for years or is it broken windows or damage shown on the outside and no one ever seen outside. Three kids are walking home from playing baseball when they end up going into the Boylan House to retrieve a baseballis story tells of what happens once they step inside.

    19. While this is about teenagers, it is a high school and older read. Here's why:One racist comment "The only good nigger is one that's swinging from a tree."And a threat of rape "Maybe I'll do your girlfriend first while you watch."While the ghost degrades a girl by calling her a "whore," this is still a great short story. Comments like these make the book more dark. It adds to the evilness of the ghost.

    20. Good story!Good story, more tragic than scary but good either way! Good story for kids/teens. I would've liked to have gotten more detail of the past they were investigating, but good read nonetheless.

    21. Very good read but very short!Adam & Emily Brewer and Jimmy Mitchell are three young teens who, while walking home together, find an old dilapidated house.Little did they realize how haunted this house was!Kept me reading and held my attention throughout.

    22. 5 StarsWhat a captivating story. I was mesmerized from the beginning!! Definitely a story beautifully told with enough details to give it a full story feel. Would definitely make a great horror flick!!!

    23. Awesome fast paced old fashion scary story. Read in one sitting. Fast book and full of action and simple characters. Refreshing book. Good scary story. Enjoyed and will be checking out more from this author.

    24. Unusual Ghost StoryThis story is a very unusual ghost/mystery. I've never read a ghost story with an active mystery attached to it. I would recommend this story from young teens to adults!

    25. What a great bookI do have to say this book was amazing to read I couldn't put it done at all. The author did a wonderful job on this. I couldn't believed who was behind the whole thing that was in the house.

    26. Kinda creepy and fun, although it was very short. I like the story and idea, though. It's definitely a classic horror tale, but I wish it were longer.

    27. Great short storyThis is a very fun ghost story. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for whatever was coming next.
